March Round-Up II

Hello, short fiction fans, here’s what’s been happening on the blog over the past few weeks!

Lit Mags

The Nottingham Review’s third issue is now available and they are calling for submissions, and the A3 Review has a new guest editor and new contests. Laura Perram interviews Mandy Taggart about her story in Long Story, Short.  Issue 3 of the Fractured Nuance is available and submissions are still open now for Shooter Issue #4: Technology.

Live Lit

There will be an event on The Art of the Short Story at the Oxford Literary Festival on April 9th. Talking Tales in Bristol is having its first birthday party on April 18th, and is calling for submissions. Today  – March 21st  – is the deadline for submitting a story for Story Fridays “Fools” event in Bath on April 1st, and Stroud Short Stories is open for submissions for its April 24th event from writers with a connection to Gloucestershire.

Contests

The second Crediton Short Story competition is open for entries, on the theme of food, deadline April 24th, and the Bath Short Story Award closes on April 25th. The third round of the Bath Flash Fiction Award is now open, deadline June 12th. The Creative Future Literary Awards are accepting entries, deadline June 13th, on the theme ‘a sea change’. The Brighton Prize 2016 is now open for entries, deadline June 10th. The Oxford Festival of The Arts is running a competition for stories by and for children, deadline April 29.

The deadline for Short Fiction’s 2016 short story prize is March 31st. You have until May 1st to enter Shooter Literary Magazine’s first short story competition and the Cardiff Review’s Short Story Award for new writers is open until May 15, The University of Sunderland’s inaugural Sunderland Short Story Award is accepting entries, deadline June 1st.

Workshops, anthologies etc…

White Rabbit’s Bernadette Russell is offering free short story workshops in Deptford, London, in April and May. The Open Pen anthology is now published – and you can read Jo Gatford’s short story, If, Then, exclusive to ShortStops.
