Fictive Dream wants your stories, and Dopplegänger has blogged with a call for submissions. Tales from the Forest has several upcoming themed deadlines. Fairlight Books has launched a new platform for literary fiction. Shooter magazine has opened submissions for its next issue, ‘New Life’.
Workshops
London Lit Lab is running a Write and Edit A Story In A Weekend Workshop, Oct 7-8th. Get a free short story critique with the Writers HQ online writing short fiction course, which begins Sep 18th. Words and Women have launched a series of Writing Sundays in Norwich in September and October.There are two free writing workshops in Devon on medieval murder and 17th century romance on Sept 14th – and a free Writing & Walking “walkshop” in Bristol on 15th September.
Live Lit
Story Fridays is calling for submissions on the theme of Speed of Light for their next event in Bath, and Stroud Short Stories want stories from Gloucs writers for their November event. There’s more Smut Slam in September. Speed book-clubbing with four shorts translated from Chinese and a discussion with translators is being held in London tomorrow, September 5th.

Competitions
The Walter Swan Short Story Prize is now open to submissions, deadline 16 October, and the Ruth Rendell short story competition is open until December 22.
