Avis Magazine is a publication run by MA students at Manchester Metropolitan University. Here at Avis we have one goal – to discover the voices of new and emerging writers. If you think you have something to say, we’d love to hear it – we might even love it so much that we put it in our next issue.

We publish two print issues a year: a Winter/Spring issue, in early February, and a Summer issue, in August.

We are looking for poetry, prose, and non-fiction essays, and we also ask contributors to write to a theme (the more imaginative interpretation the better). Aesthetically, we take the approach that, so long as the writer has a spark – the magic – then genre is unimportant. Whether it’s kitchen sink verisimilitude or hysterical realism, concrete poetry or neo-noir thriller, if it chills us to the bone or floods us with awe then we want to see it.

In-line with our mission statement, please query with us if you’ve published a collection of short fiction or poetry. It’s not a deal-breaker but it will help us out. And for those of you who’ve never published a thing – dust off the inkjet (figuratively speaking, we don’t accept postal subs at the moment) and send us your most polished offerings. We aim to respond within 3 to 5 weeks of submission.

Find more details about what we’re looking for, as well as other info on how we’d like you to submit, in our current Call for Submissions, here. There are also pictures of us and some nice bird-photos. Because Avis. Like birds.

Best wishes
