Writeidea Prize announces finalists

Judging has now concluded for the Writeidea Prize 2014.

The winner will be announced at 2pm on Sunday 16 November, at the Writeidea Festival. Entry is free and open to all.

Writeidea Prize longlist is announced

Twenty stories have been longlisted for the inaugural Writeidea Prize, from over 300 entries.

The titles of the longlisted stories are available on the Writeidea website. Writer names are still under wraps until judging is complete.

Top prize is £500, plus five finalists’ prizes of £100 each.  There is a local prize of £500 for the best entry by a Tower Hamlets writer.

The shortlist of six will be announced on Monday 13 October, and the winner revealed at the Writeidea Festival on Sunday 16 November.

Writeidea Prize closes 31 July!

The Writeidea Prize is a new national short story prize.

First Prize: £500

Five finalists’ prizes:  £100 each        

Tower Hamlets Prize: £500          

The six finalists and local winner will be invited to read their stories alongside the judge, Alex Wheatle, at the Writeidea Festival on Sunday 16 November 2014 at 2.00pm.

The Festival takes place at the iconic Idea Store Whitechapel in the heart of London’s East End.

This year’s Festival includes readings and panel discussions from Tariq Ali, Jake Arnott (The Long Firm), Nick Cohen, Jill Dawson, poet Kate Fox, Tom Holland, Nikesh Shukla, and Wasafiri editor Susheila Nasta.

Judge: Alex Wheatle is the author of several novels including Brixton Rock and Brenton Brown. He was awarded an MBE for services to literature in 2008.

Length: Stories must be a maximum of 4,000 words (no minimum).

Closing date: 31 July 2014
