Tales From The Forest is an online magazine full of art and poetry and fiction, and we’re delighted to announce the theme for our eleventh issue: LORE. 

We want legends, folk tales, elves and spooks.

We’d like witches, fairies, wyverns and ghouls.

Consideration will also be given to gods, goddesses,  druids and mystics. 

Guidelines:

Fiction: no more than 1,000 words. Submit one piece only. 
Art: any medium. Submit one piece only. 
Poetry: any length. Submit one piece only.

 

Deadline: Sunday September 29th.

We are open to work that has been printed elsewhere.

We maintain the right to publish and archive your work.

Shooter seeks submissions for “Rivalry”

Shooter Literary Magazine invites submissions of short fiction, non-fiction and poetry on the theme of “Rivalry” for its winter 2018 issue.

Writers should submit stories, essays, memoir, reported narratives and poetry on anything to do with competition, antagonism, warring forces and individual foes. The context might be sports, business, romance, politics, survival; the characters might be students, frenemies, parents, current and former lovers, courtroom opponents. As ever, the theme is open to wide interpretation.

Successful writers will hear from us within a few weeks of the deadline, if not before, and receive payment and a copy of the issue following publication. We want your art and poetry and stories that nod to limits and restrictions and obstacles and nuisances. In keeping with the theme, we are adjusting our submission requirements for this issue.

Art: any medium. Submit one piece only. 
Poetry: any length. You guessed it: Submit one piece only.

Issue #6: “How It Begins” – To allow our triptych format, the sixth issue will be focused on beginnings. The first words spoken, the first meeting, the first time something appears or disappears. The Start Of Something. Deadline September 3rd 2017.

Issue #7: “Continuity” – The midpoint. Send us art and stories that started elsewhere (in issue 6, or not), send us re-occurrences, send us the realisation of things changing or staying exactly the same. The Middle Of Something. Deadline December 3rd 2017.

Issue #8: “Ever After” – The ending. We want to see how things fall apart or come back together. Happy or sad, alive or otherwise, “fare thee well” or “come with me.” Deadline March 4th 2018.

Stories: Max 1,500 words for individual pieces, 4,500 for a piece that spans all 3 issues.

Spelk: Open for Submissions

Spelk is open for submissions.

Our current reading period is February 14 to March 12.

We will let you know by mid-March if your story has been accepted.

Please keep the following in mind if you’d like to send us something:

  • We publish flash fiction — 500 words, give or take.
  • We’ll consider just about any genre: we’re not fussy if it’s “literary” or “non-literary.” If we like it, we’ll publish it.
  • We don’t publish poetry or non-fiction.
  • We post three stories a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • We want previously unpublished stories. If you’ve got something good, we want it to appear on Spelk first.
  • We accept simultaneous submissions, but let us know if you place your story somewhere else.
  • We don’t accept multiple submissions, so just one story at a time please.
  • We don’t pay. Sorry.
  • You retain all rights to your story, but we’d like to archive it on our site.
  • Spell-check your story before you send it. Proof it. Make sure it’s the best you can make it.
  • Send us a Word document and include a short bio at the end of your story. Let us know if you’re on Facebook or Twitter, or if you have your own website.

Run by students on the MMU’s MA Creative Writing programme, Avis Magazine seeks work from new and emerging writers on the theme of migration.

Across geographies big and small, wide and minor; across borders and boundaries, fences, walls, and lines in the sand. Think comets through the cosmos and piercings through the skin; people, their lives, their losses. Dip your fingers in your inkwells and let us have it. We support emerging writers – so if you’ve never had a story or poem published, send something across. We’re a print journal, so if your work is strange and/or lovely and you like to see it in a magazine, get in touch.

 

Prose
We are looking for your finest short stories and flash.
Submit up to 1 short story and 3 pieces of flash.
The short story word limit is 2,000 words.
The flash should range from 100 to 1000 words maximum.

 

Poetry
We are hungry for your leanest verse.
Submit up to 4 pieces of poetry.
The line-count limit is 40 lines per poem.

 

Non-fiction
We have a small section for essays and meditations on the issue’s theme.
Submit 1 piece of non-fiction  of up to 2,000 words.

PAPER AND INK LITERARY ZINE ISSUE #6

Issue #6 of PAPER AND INK is all designed and ready to go and let me tell you… It really is our biggest and best issue yet. Over forty writers and artists from all over the world are featured. There are some amazing stories and fantastic artwork. The only problem is that we now need to raise the funds to get the mag printed. I don’t normally do this but I have turned to Indiegogo for a little helping hand. There are some awesome perks and rewards up for grabs so please lend your support if you’re able to. If you can’t help out financially then please share the campaign on your networks. It would be a big help and very much appreciated!
