Live Lit
We’re delighted to welcome a new event to our listings – Unsung Live, London: “a short story night for genre fans – science fiction, fantasy, horror and more”.

The Story Sessions are running two events and a workshop at the Broxley Max lit fest, London. Check out White Rabbit’s second Alice in Wonderland podcast, Six Impossible Things Before BreakfastRecliffe Future Way was launched on May 1st and is running its fiction trails in Bristol throughout the month.

The Word Factory #33 is happening in London on May 30th – the masterclass is sold out, but there’s the short story reading club and the Irish-themed evening event.

Lit Mags
Hotel Magazine has announced issue 1 and is calling for submissions for its second issue, and Paper and Ink want your stories on the theme of ‘childhood’. The third issue of Confingo is now on sale, Firewords Quarterly’s Issue 4 is hot off the presses.

Jotters United has a new issue out, 2Tango, and a call for submissions, Spelk also wants your short stories, and Bunbury has launched Issue 8 and shared some more exciting announcements with us.

Competitions

The Queen’s Head zine has launched a flash fiction competition, with illustrator Mahr, deadline June 7. Ambit magazine has launched its first annual short story competition, judged by Alison Moore, deadline July 15th. Headstuff magazine has launched a knockout comic short fiction competition with a prize fund of 3200 euros! The Creative Future Literary Awards are now open to marginalised writers, deadline 15 June, and The Moth’s International Short Story Prize is open, deadline June 30th.

The fourth Hysteria writing competition is open for entries, deadline 15 August. Holland Park Press is running a short story competition, I Is Another, deadline 31 August. The University of Leicester’s 2015 short story competition is now open, deadline 11 September.

Festivals

The full programme for this year’s London Short Story Festival in June has now been announced.

Trafika Europe has published Issue 3, Latvian Sojourn, and Don’t Do It Issue 8, Noise, is now live. Flash: The Short Short Story magazine has launched issue 7.2. Trafika Europe also invites you to visit their radio campaign!

Jotters United celebrates its first birthday with a call for submissions for its anniversary issue. Octavius magazine has relaunched – and is now open to submissions. Shooter Literary Magazine is calling for submissions for Issue #2, on the theme of ‘Union’, by April 1st. Neon Magazine has opened submissions for Battery Pack II, its second anthology of tiny stories, deadline April 15.

Competitions & Festivals
The Felixtstowe Book Festival’s 2015 short story competition is accepting entries until May 16th, and The Moth’s International Short Story Prize is open, deadline June 30th. Holland Park Press is running a short story competition, I Is Another, deadline 31 August.

Workshops and Courses
Write Around Town, who are behind Writing Maps, are holding a series of writing workshops in London in April.

Live Lit

Last Minutes and Gentle Reminders
The deadline for Mslexia’s 2015 short story competition (women only) has been extended to March 23rd. Submissions are open til March 31st for The Manchester Review  and Brain Of Forgetting’s 2nd issue, on the theme of ‘Poppies’.  The Short FICTION short story prize closes on March 31st.

You have until Feb 28th to submit your short stories for an anthology inspired by Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, to be published by Freight Books.

Neon Magazine has opened submissions for Battery Pack II, its second anthology of tiny stories.  Other mags still want your stories too: The Manchester Review has is calling for your submissions.

Berko Writers is holding a night to talk about sex and writing, Turn Me On, in Berkhamstead, Feb 10th. Alison Clayborn is running a Flash Fiction workshop  on Feb 18th at the Brunel Museum in London.

And Ireland has a new national residential writing centre – The Story House in County Waterford, which is running a short story course from Mar 23-28th.

Writing Advice

We’re delighted that 2 new lit mags have joined our list: Trafika Europe, which “brings you some of the best new literature from Europe… and later in 2015 the first “online” literary radio station”; and Shooter Literary Magazine, “supporting emerging writers of literary fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry and narrative journalism”. Welcome, both!

Clevedon Community Bookshop is holding a flash fiction workshop taught by Gail Aldwin this Thurs, Jan 22nd. Paul McVeigh is running a one-day workshop on That Killer First Page- Submitting to Competitions and Journals, in London on Jan 31st. Alison Clayborn is running a Focus on Fiction course at the Brunel Museum in London.

And Ireland has a new national residential writing centre – The Story House in County Waterford, which is running a short story course from Mar 23-28th.

Another new publication’s just joined our list – welcome to Taylz: “a free website for short story writers to test and develop their work”.

There’s loads to read and many places to send your stories: The Manchester Review has just published Issue 13 and is calling for your submissions. Short Story Sunday gives us a round-up and a festive special.

Firewords Three is here, Jotters United has a new issue out and is calling for submissions, and the second issue of Confingo is now on sale. The Emma Press is calling for prose pamphlet submissions.  Issue 4 of Holdfast Magazine is live and they are calling for submissions, as is Bunbury magazine, while giving us a peek at what’s been going on over there. Short Fiction journal also wants your short stories.

Anthologies

Queen’s Ferry Press is calling for submissions – from lit mag editors – for the first Best Small Fictions anthology.  Freight Books wants short story submissons for an anthology inspired by Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity. To celebrate National Short Story Week, 32 young writers have been published in an anthology, on sale now.

Competitions & Festivals
The Solstice Shorts Festival is approaching. Felixtstowe Book Festival has launched its 2015 short story competition, deadline May 16th.

Live Lit
White Rabbit has a new family story-telling show at Knole in December. Story Fridays is calling for submissions on the theme of The 1980s for its January event in Bath.
