Join Bristol’s First Flash Open Mic – Flash in Hand

The opening night of Bristol’s new open mic event, Flash in Hand, is on Monday 13th May. Of all the things we might associate with Mondays, this is probably one of the most uplifting!

We know that stories can take us anywhere, from the depths of the human condition to the sky and beyond. We normally read stories in the privacy of our own heads, whether curled up on the couch or cocooned in our commute, but sometimes the best way to connect with stories is with other people. Flash fiction is ideally suited to this. From beginning to end, no more than 500 words, a whole story, a whole journey from beginning to middle to end that will leave you moved, laughing or struck by insight. And that’s not the only taste it will leave in your mouth: we have a bar.

So, whether you want to come along to listen (£3.50 on the door) or to read (free!), we’ll see you there, 19:30 onwards. Let us know you’re coming via the Facebook event:

Flashers’ Club VII: August 2018

Flashers’ Club is back off hiatus and raring to go. At our upcoming event at Smokey Joe’s Coffee Bar, Cheltenham, on Thursday the 2nd August, you can expect our usual open mic free-for-all (bring a story 100-1000 words long and you can get straight up behind the mic), FREE anthologies for all readers courtesy of indie publishers The Fiction Desk, plus a reading or two by award-winning Cypriot flash fiction author Nora Nadjarian. It’s not to be missed.

Tickets are just £4 – or £3 if you sign up to read – and all profits, as always, go to child literacy charity First Story. Find full deets at www.flashersclub.wordpress.com, and regular updates on our social media: @flashers_club, and www.facebook.com/flashersclubcheltenham.

See you there!

Flashers’ Club I

The inaugural meeting of Flashers’ Club  was on Thursday 10th November, and we’re happy to say it was a great success. Thirteen writers read fifteen stories, taking us from the Old West to Afghanistan, from married bliss to the trials of being a modern Nosferatu. Head over to our blog to see lots more details and pictures.

With over thirty tickets sold, we raised nearly £80 for the charity First Story. As part of their thanks they’ve sent us a very special poem composed by one of their students, which you can also find on our blog.

Flashers’ Club will now be a quarterly event. Our next meet will be on Thursday 9th February 2017, 7:30pm onwards, Smokey Joe’s Coffee Bar, Cheltenham. There’ll be advance booking available online nearer to the date, and door tickets available on the night. We’ve already got our next lot of free literature sorted (we like to bribe our readers with free books and litmags), and we’re working on a rather exciting guest writer slot. Watch this space.
