Stand Up Tragedy is a night where people stand up and tell tragedy. We make you sad; we make you think; we make you smile. Expect music, comedy, fiction, spoken word, true stories and more, all playing up to the tragic form but not always taking it seriously. The night ends, not with a whimper, not with a bang, but with a cathartic sing-a-long.
Past acts performing at standup tragedy have included the likes of Josie Long, Robin Ince, Nat Luurtsema, Rob Auton, Simon Munnery, Grace Petrie and Tania Hershman as well as a host of up and coming and sometimes completely unknown acts. We release a weekly podcast and we are launching a monthly fanzine featuring written and drawn tragedy on 12th December 2013.
Our live nights will be going monthly from then too alternating between the 2nd Thursday of the month at The Dogstar in Brixton and the 3rd Friday of the month at the Hackney Attic (upstairs at the Hackney Picture House). We’ll be grouping our tragedy together around themes too. Future themes include Tragic Christmas, Tragic Heroes, Tragic Martyrs and Tragic History.
If you want any more information or are interested in performing with us live or contributing to our podcast please feel free to reach out to us.
We love to share the tragedy:
