Illicit Ink run awesome spoken word shows. Themes such as time, space, monsters and murder have inspired a mischievous mix of dark and witty fiction, with each show hosting a fresh lineup of both new and established performing writers.
Events are £5/£3. Upbeat compèring, short readings and experimental performances are all important to Illicit Ink’s anti-boredom policy. So if you like listening to stories but find your mind tends to wander to thinking about food, these gigs are worth a gander.
Supporting Writers In Performing Their Work
Illicit Ink are inclusive and supportive. If you’re a writer looking to perform, you can sign up for one of our Underground open slots. Since our shows are themed, this often means writing to measure, unless you’re jammy and have something you prepared earlier. It can be tricky, and so you can access any of the following for free:
- Feedback: from a lovely, experienced editor who is fluent in the complex language of First Draft
- Editing: from the same lovely, experienced editor who can offer a light or not-so-light edit
- Performance training: one-on-one and group rehearsals with support from the II staff
- Other stuff: perhaps a chat about nerves or a practice reading, or helping you decide what to have for lunch
The History Of Illicit Ink
Illicit Ink have been on the go since early 2011. They formed based on the success of an event called Love Sick, a spoken word collaboration between Writers’ Bloc and several creative writing students. The latter studenty types continued running themed events, opening the lineups to include other writers.
