The Bristol Short Story Prize is open to entries of stories up to 4000 words long until May 1st. Reflex Fiction’s Summer 2018 Flash Fiction competition is now open, 180-360 words. deadline May 31st – which is also the closing date for the Casket of Fictional Delights flash fiction competition, judged by David Gaffney, for stories 300 words or less.

The VS Pritchett Short Story Prize is now open, deadline June 29th, and there is a new and free-to-enter short story competition for residents of Warwickshire, deadline May 20th.

 

Lit Mags

Crossways magazine is open to submissions for its summer issue. Fictive Dream is calling for submissions, as is DNA magazine, which has extended its call for submissions of creative nonfiction on the theme of Lies & Confessions until April 13th. Shooter magazine’s deadline for submissions is April 8th for its ‘Dirty Money’ issue and The Cardiff Review is open til April 15th for submissions for its queer issue.

 

Workshops

Irish writer Claire Keegan is holding a two-day fiction workshop at Goldsmith’s University, London, on April 21-22.

Anthologies and Festivals

Cornish Short Stories: A Collection of Contemporary Cornish Writing is now available and the launch is 19 April in Falmouth. Booking is now open for the 2018 Flash Fiction Festival, being held in Bristol in July.

Story Friday’s next event is “home”-themed, 9 March in Bath. Writers Unchained is calling for submissions on the theme “A Moment in Time” for its next event, on April 29th, in Bristol. Stroud Short Stories is now open for submissions for its May 20th event in Stroud. Flashers’ Club have posted an update about how their Feb 8th event went.

Each issue is based on a theme or phrase” and TOKEN Magazine, “an arts and literature zine that gives a voice to those who are rarely  given one.” Do check them out. Tales From The Forest has written its first blog post with a call for submissions for Issue #5.

Submissions are open for Shooter Issue #6: Bad Girls, Fictive Dream published its 50th post and is also calling for submissions. Popshot is still open for submissions for the ‘Future’ issue until Jan 26th.
