Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy this live lit event showcasing local writers, hosted by Jenefer Heap, author of ‘The Woman Who Never Did’ and ‘Women in Shorts’. Upstairs at Merchants offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can hear short stories, poems and other creative writing inspired by fairy tales, nursery rhymes or traditional stories and legends. And as always, the theme will be open to a wide interpretation!

Whether you’re seeking poems about damsels & dragons, stories of Wind in the Willows in outer space, or simply a modern twist on a much-loved fireside tale, we’re confident of a fascinating evening Once Upon a Word.

Tickets £3 – available in advance or on the door. Merchants wine bar offers a good choice of beers and wines – and also tea!
