Here’s what’s been happening on ShortStops recently…
Two new entries on our ever-expanding Lit Mags list! Elbow Room is a “limited edition, hand-bound pamphlet…that includes written and visual arts” and they are running a competition, see below for more. Zero Flash is “a tribute to flash fiction.”
Paper and Ink Zine tells us about recent reviews and wants your thoughts. Nine is the magic number: Bunbury magazine’s ninth issue is published, The Night Issue and SHORT FICTION gives us a preview of their ninth issue. Trafika Europe’sfourth issue, Armenian Rhapsody, has just been published.
Breve New Stories is calling for submissions for Issue Zero, out in September. Popshot magazine wants your stories on the theme of “Curious”. Holdfast magazine has just published Issue 6, Gods and Monsters, and are looking for work for Issue 7. The Nottingham Review is open for submissions for its first issue. Hotel Magazine has announced issue 1 and is calling for submissions for its second issue.

Stand-Up Tragedy’s Free Festival of Tragedy is coming to Edinburgh this August. The Word Factory is holding its 35th event on July 25th in London, live lit and a masterclass. You missed Do Kind, Be Nice, Spread Happy, from White Rabbit on July 11th, but keep an eye out for more events!
The fourth Hysteria writing competition is open for entries, deadline 15 August. Holland Park Press is running a short story competition, I Is Another, deadline 31 August. The University of Leicester’s 2015 short story competition is now open, deadline 11 September. A new competition, the Cambridge Flash Fiction award, has just launched, with monthly deadlines. The Cro-Magnon lit zine has just announced its new short story competition, ‘Primitive Humanity‘, deadline Sept 15th.
Festivals & Workshops
Gemma Seltzer is running Write & Shine, Early Morning Writing Classes in London beginning tomorrow, July 7th. Swanwick Writers Summer School invites you to live, laugh and learn with fellow writers this August.
