It’s been said that a picture paints a thousand words. Well, if that’s true, a thousand words must also write a picture. And that’s what this project is all about: writing a story from a picture prompt. In March 2012, people began to send us stories they’d written in response to the images on our Pinterest boards, and over the course of May and early June (in celebration of the first ever National Flash-Fiction Day) we posted the best of them. The project did not end there, though; 1000words is still open to submissions, and now there is no deadline – we simply publish flash-fictions as and when we accept them. We also run the occasional competition.
